First announcement

The XVIII International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists and Specialists (AYSS-2014) will be held on 24-28 February 2014 and will be dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Bogoliubov, an outstanding mathematician and theoretical physicist, a member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Nikolai Bogoliubov showed his interest in science at an early age: he published his first work when he was 14, at the age of 16 he became a post-graduate student of the Mathematics Department at Kiev University, and at 21 he received his doctorate in Mathematics. During his long life he worked at Kiev University, at the Steklov Mathematical Institute, at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and headed the Mathematics Department in “Arzamas-16”.

In 1956, he became the first Director of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, later leading the entire JINR from 1965 to 1988. His works in the fields of mathematics and theoretical physics are impressive: they concern calculus of variations and equations of mathematical physics; the renormalization group method and R-operation in quantum field theory, the theory of superfluidity (and subsequently, of superconductivity), the theory of the strong interaction, and the introduction of a new quantum number called “colour”.

Apart from science, Academician N. Bogoliubov took interest in social work: he was as a deputy of the USSR Supreme Soviet (Member of Parliament) elected from the Moscow Region and was a member of the Pugwash movement for peace.

The Conference will be devoted to the fundamental and applied fields of research which are being conducted at JINR. Students, PhD students, young scientists and specialists from JINR, other Russian and foreign scientific centres are invited to participate in the Conference. Within the framework of the conference, leading scientists will give lectures on theoretical and mathematical physics.

The working languages of the Conference will be Russian and English. The proceedings and abstracts will be published in special volumes. The papers recommended by the competition committee will be submitted for publication in refereed journals.

Students, post-graduate students, young scientists and specialists under 35 years old are invited to give presentations in parallel sections. The registration is open until 20 January 2014 on the conference web-site. After registration a participant will receive a confirmation from the Organizing Committee.

The registration is open until 26 January 2014. All participants should fill all fields of registration form!
